In evaluating any item for overall safety for sugar gliders, there are two main areas to consider: toxicity and physical safety.

Toxicity
Gliders are sapsuckers. Their nature is to bite and lick. You must be sure that anything you give them access to is non-toxic to gliders. While most toys that are safe for birds are acceptable for gliders, not all toys designed for small animals are. Items made from pine or cedar are not to be used for gliders. Be sure to research any type of wood, plant or flower before giving it to your gliders. Here's a link to some more information about plants and flowers:

Physical Safety
Also consider the physical safety side. Chipping paint or metal can be ingested and fatal. Loose strings or loosely woven rope can entangle a glider causing severe injury, stress or death. Moving items can pinch a toe or tail. Flexible items, like jelly bangles, can twist around a glider and trap them. Solid rings should either be small enough that heads can't fit through or large enough for an entire body to pass through. Sharp edges can cut and injure.

When evaluating items for glider safety, look at them from a glider's viewpoint...similar to child proofing. Gliders won't always use an item like it's intended. They're going to chew and jump and climb. Will the item be safe for them?
